The position serves as a developmental role within the Facilities Operations and Maintenance (O&M) organization and provides hands-on training in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, building automation, life safety, and utility systems commonly found in federal facilities. Responsibilities typically include assisting with preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, work order execution, and compliance activities. Apprentice Engineers gain practical experience while supporting uninterrupted facility operations and mission readiness.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nAssist with operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and utility systems.\nPerform scheduled preventive maintenance activities in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and site maintenance plans.\nSupport troubleshooting and repair of facility equipment and infrastructure.\nConduct building rounds and equipment inspections to identify deficiencies or abnormal operating conditions.\nAssist with monitoring Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Management Systems (BMS).\nComplete work orders and document maintenance activities within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).\nSupport facility engineers during corrective maintenance and emergency response events.\nAssist with testing and inspection of life safety systems and equipment.\nFollow established safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental compliance standards.\nMaintain tools, equipment, and maintenance records.\nSupport contractor oversight activities and coordination of maintenance services.\nParticipate in technical training programs and professional development activities.\nOther duties as assigned.\nEXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE:\n\nREQUIRED:\n\nHigh School Diploma or GED.\nEnrollment in the Apprentice Program with Local 99.\nBasic knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical equipment.\nAbility to use hand tools and maintenance equipment safely.\nAbility to obtain and maintain required federal installation access and security credentials.\nDESIRED:\n\nTrade school, vocational training, apprenticeship program\nSecret Clearance\nOSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification.\nEPA Section 608 Certification.\nFamiliarity with CMMS platforms such as Maximo, TRIRIGA, AssetWorks, or FacilityDude.\nExposure to Building Automation Systems (Niagara, Metasys, Alerton, Siemens, Schneider Electric, etc.).\nExperience supporting federal government facilities.\n\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES\n\nKnowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.\nAbility to read basic drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.\nWorking knowledge of facility safety practices and OSHA requirements.\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.\nEffective written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work independently and within a multidisciplinary facilities team.\nCommitment to customer service and mission support.\nREASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS:\n\nReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions.\n\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nNone.\n\nWORK ENVIRONMENT:\n\nThe noise level in the work environment is consistent with work performed in the building trades.\n\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:\n\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
