We operate lean, move fast, and expect our interns to function like core team members. You won’t be shadowing; you will be given end-to-end ownership of critical hardware modules. We are looking for an electrical engineering student who has already spent significant time in the lab, built complex systems from scratch, and thrives in an ambiguous, rapid-prototyping environment.Key ResponsibilitiesTake ownership of the end-to-end design, prototyping, and validation of custom electrical sub-systems for our robotic platforms.Design and route complex mixed-signal PCBs, managing the process from schematic capture to layout and board bring-up.Design and test power distribution networks, battery management systems, and power conversion modules for high-draw robotic actuators.Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electronics into tight physical envelopes and ensure seamless firmware-hardware handoffs.Perform rigorous root-cause failure analysis and debugging on prototype hardware using standard lab equipment.Minimum QualificationsCurrently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.Hands-on Robotics Experience: Proven track record of building, wiring, and integrating physical robots or complex electro-mechanical systems (demonstrated via prior internships, advanced personal projects, or competitive student design teams like FIRST, RoboSub or Formula SAE).PCB Design: Demonstrated experience independently designing, routing, and bringing up printed circuit boards using KiCAD, EAGLE, or Altium Designer.Power Systems: Strong fundamental understanding of power distribution and routing.Lab Skills: High proficiency with hands-on debugging and lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, fine-pitch soldering).Preferred QualificationsPrior internship experience in consumer electronics, robotics, or an agile hardware startup environment.Motor Control & FOC: Deep understanding of Field-Oriented Control (FOC) algorithms and experience in motor control planning, including tuning and deploying high-performance BLDC/PMSM actuators for dynamic robotic movements.Firmware experience and familiarity with writing bare-metal or RTOS-level C/C++ for microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32, ARM Cortex-M).Deep understanding of embedded communication protocols used in robotics (CAN bus, I2C, SPI, UART, RS-485).Familiarity with BLDC motor control, encoders, and sensor integration (IMUs, LiDAR, cameras).A strong portfolio showcasing your past hardware projects, PCB layouts, and robotic builds. We are open to candidates on F1/CPT.","company":"Terrawise","rawCompany":"terrawise","city":"Millbrae","state":"CA","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-05-11T21:56:49.991Z","occupations":[{"code":"17-2199.08","title":"Robotics Engineers","slug":"robotics-engineers"},{"code":"17-2072.00","title":"Electronics Engineers, Except Computer","slug":"electronics-engineers-except-computer"},{"code":"17-2071.00","title":"Electrical Engineers","slug":"electrical-engineers"}],"industries":[{"code":"541715","title":"Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Nanotechnology and Biotechnology)","slug":"research-and-development-in-the-physical-engineering-and-life-sciences-except-nanotechnology-and-biotechnology"},{"code":"541330","title":"Engineering Services","slug":"engineering-services"},{"code":"335314","title":"Relay and Industrial Control Manufacturing","slug":"relay-and-industrial-control-manufacturing"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Electrical Engineering Intern","description":"Location: San Francisco Term: Summer 2026 About the RoleWe are a fast-paced robotics startup building next-generation autonomous ground robots for solar farm inspection and more.
