Position SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management of construction projects from inception through closeout. The Senior Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and the Accounting team to ensure accurate job costing, billing, contract administration, reporting, and compliance with company policies and client requirements. This role is critical to maintaining the financial health of projects and ensuring timely, accurate reporting in a fast-paced construction environment.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Financial ManagementManage project setup, budgets, cost codes, and contract documentation within the accounting systemMonitor project costs, commitments, change orders, and budget variancesTrack and reconcile subcontractor and vendor invoices against project budgetsPrepare and process client billings, including AIA progress billings and time-and-material invoicesAssist Project Managers with forecasting project costs and profitabilityAccounting & ReportingMaintain accurate job cost records and supporting documentationPrepare monthly project financial reports and work-in-progress (WIP) schedulesReconcile project-related general ledger accountsAssist with month-end and year-end closing processesReview and process subcontractor pay applications and lien waiversContract & Compliance AdministrationSupport contract administration, including insurance certificates, bonding documentation, and compliance trackingEnsure compliance with contract terms, accounting standards, and company policiesAssist with audits and provide documentation as requestedCoordinate with project teams to resolve billing or payment discrepanciesCollaboration & SupportPartner with Project Managers to provide financial insight and support decision-makingCommunicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal departmentsIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencyQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based industriesStrong understanding of job costing, construction billing, and project accounting principlesExperience with ERP/accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar systemsProficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting toolsKnowledge of AIA billing processes preferred
