Job TitleMaintains and repairs City equipment; performs routine maintenance and diagnostic checks to ensure vehicles and equipment operate under the conditions which they were designed for.Essential Functions/Job Competencies/Physical RequirementsESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Repairs and maintains City vehicles, light equipment, and small machinery and their associated systems such as electrical, hydraulic, compression, and water pumps.Performs complete overhaul and mechanical repair work on City equipment, which includes: automobiles, light and heavy duty trucks, mowers, and other standard and specialized equipment; performs preventive maintenance and diagnostic work on vehicles.Repairs and overhauls transmissions, differentials, front and rear end assemblies.Inspects, adjusts, and replaces necessary units and related parts, valves, pistons, piston rings, brakes, main bearing assembly, cooling, ignition, and fuel systems.Repairs and overhauls motors, generators, carburetor, clutches; replaces brake axles and springs.Repairs and overhauls air compressors, hydraulic systems, and other specialized related equipment.Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.Performs other related duties as required.COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIESKnowledge ofAutomotive wiring systems.The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.Skills and AbilitiesAbility to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair defects in automotive equipment.Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to interpret and work from sketches and schematic diagrams.Ability to use operation tools and machinery used in automotive repair work.Ability to change and repair all tire sizes from all types of equipment.Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with others.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills.Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of this position.WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposuresOffice or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
