With advancements in information technology such as big data, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and the internet of things, there is an increased need for experts who not only understand how technology functions, but also understand the social, cultural, and ethical issues surrounding the design, development, support, and access to these technologies. The program is designed to serve undergraduate students who are interested in either a liberal arts-based or STEM-based approach to the rapidly growing intersection of people, information, technology, and data. FWA arrangements are subject to manager approval and may shift due to changes in business needs.PurposeProvide academic advising to Informatics undergraduate students and serve as the primary student life coordinator. Provide general support to the undergraduate program in the School of Information.ResponsibilitiesAdvisingAdvise Informatics students on course selection for current and future semesters, degree requirements, catalog and major changes, progress towards the degree and degree audit, degree information, and graduate school planning. Develop advising aids. Serve as a FIG facilitator.Assist with tracking students with academic difficulty and monitor students on scholastic probation. Maintain accurate and confidential digital student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and university policies.Update the undergraduate student handbook. Maintain student email lists. Provide information to Informatics students regarding campus resources and student services. Assist students with crisis management by making appropriate referrals and recommendations.Student LifeServe as primary student life coordinator. Assist Informatics majors to formally create and gain official recognition of Informatics student organizations. Work directly with Informatics student organizations and provide support with university policies, procedures, and organizational assistance.Undergraduate Program SupportProvide back-up to the Admissions Coordinator as contact to prospective students and other external audiences concerning admissions policies and general program information.Participate in promoting the program to new and incoming students via information and orientation sessions for prospective and incoming students. Participate in the planning and execution of first‐year and transfer orientation, Honors Day, and Family Weekend. Participate in the planning and execution of university‐ and school‐wide events, including Open House, Gone to Information, Convocation, and Commencement. Assist with graduate program orientation and info sessions as needed.Serve as back‐up with course management issues including prerequisites, seat demands, course scheduling, course instructor surveys, collecting syllabi, room reservations, and other related matters in the undergraduate program.Serve as a resource to School of Information faculty and administration regarding academic policies, procedures, and deadlines. Serve on Undergraduate Studies Committee.Professional DevelopmentExplore new models for effective delivery of academic advising. Attend professional development seminars, academic advising events and other campus meetings.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree and four years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity.Experience in developing and maintaining strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders by providing exceptional customer service, technical support, and problem‐solving with positivity, tact, and decorum.Excellent organizational skills. Ability to self‐start, learn quickly, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks. Demonstrated ability to solve problems as they arise. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects. Ability to lead an initiative from planning to execution.Ability to communicate clearly, work collaboratively with others, and contribute constructively to a team environment.Demonstrated experience using digital tools to create and improve systems.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred QualificationsMore than four years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity.Experience in helping to organize and/or maintain student organizations.Knowledge of policies and procedures related to undergraduate academic programs at the University of Texas at Austin.Experience using UT's NRRECS system, Advisor's Toolkit, IDA 2.0, FaSet, EASI, Class Manager, Course File Update and TracDat and Canvas or its equivalent.Salary$51,000 + depending on qualificationsWorking ConditionsTypical office environmentWork ShiftStandard schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday‐Friday.
