The job description for your reference is below for your review:Job Title: Environmental Engineer 1Location: Birmingham, AL (35203)Duration: 12 MonthsShift: Hybrid - 40 hours a week (3 days in-office, 2 days remote, 1-2 weekends a month)Position Summary:The position will fill a water resources engineer in the Client hydro organization. Client owns and operates hydro generating plants across several watersheds. Reservoir management is responsible for the implementation of the overall water control plan of these watersheds, which includes operational forecasting, flood control, and drought management.Reservoir operations use software systems and data from many sources to implement the water control plan: hydrologic equipment and instrumentation, weather forecasts, and historical operational information. A remote network of real-time instrumentation is also maintained by reservoir management personnel and contractors, including rain, stage, and temperature sensors.Reservoir management also provides watershed modeling using river analysis software. To facilitate these functions, computer systems and a software suite referred to as HOMS (Hydro Optimization Management System) are also operated and maintained by reservoir management.This position will support the hydro reservoir management team with these activities.Primary Responsibilities:Water resource management, which includes hydro operations forecasting, flood control, and drought managementHydrologic and hydraulic modelingWatershed modelingSupport of the gaging systems and equipmentComputer system managementProgramming to support software developed and maintained by reservoir managementComputer model development and configurationEducation:Bachelor's degree in engineering requiredExperience:A basic understanding of:Water resource managementHydrologic and hydraulic modelingWatershed modelingFluid mechanicsComputer model development and configurationProgramming and scripting languagesFamiliar With:Gaging systems and equipmentData collection and disseminationAdditional Skills & Abilities:Results-orientedSupports work outside of a traditional work schedule (for example, during flood control operations, forecasts are developed and updated during a rain event)Presents technical information clearlyBuilds relationships across departments and support organizations within the hydro industryFosters collaboration and teamworkEmbraces new ideas and continuous learningValues a diverse and inclusive work team
