Volunteer: 3-Year Communications Plan Strategy

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.We are looking for a Communications Strategist to help us design our new 3-year communication Strategy. Specifically, we need a volunteer to assist with: - Leading the working sessions of a Communication Committee of staff members, Board Members, and external volunteer experts To rethink the organization’s communication strategy for the next 3 years, including: - Message Refinement - Audience Segmentation - Process Design - KPI Framework To come up with a final Strategy before June 30, 2026. The main idea would be to align the key points: - The local communities - at the core of SMM’s mission - The Meal Recovery Coalition’s goals and successes, - NJ as a "Center of Excellence" for model efficiency, - Expansion opportunities (like NYC), and - a Tech-powered solution.Founded in January 2020, Share My Meals is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity and the environmental impact of food waste by recovering and delivering healthy prepared meals to local communities. By helping us professionalize our communications strategy, you are helping us: - Scale Our Impact: Effective messaging allows us to grow our program and replicate our success in New Jersey to new environments like NYC. - Increase Resource Mobilization: A clear narrative across climate, health, and tech focuses will help us attract more partners, volunteers, and financial donors. - Establish Thought Leadership: Ensure we can influence government stakeholders and community leaders to adopt more efficient food recovery models. Your expertise will directly translate into more meals recovered and more families served by ensuring the right people hear the SMM story at the right time.Share My Meals has already laid the groundwork for this project to ensure a seamless handoff to a volunteer. We have: - Internal Alignment: We have obtained full buy-in from management and the communications team on our fundamental strategic pillars. - Drafted Strategy: We have a detailed overview of our target audiences, key message themes, and a list of stakeholders. - Dedicated Team: A project lead is assigned to manage this collaboration, and our wider team is prepared to implement the final workflows. - Centralized Collaboration: All materials are organized in a Google Doc workspace to ensure efficient communication within the 2-5 hours per week timeframe.Share My Meals Mission: Share My Meals is a nonprofit organization active across New Jersey and dedicated to fighting both food insecurity and the environmental impact of food waste by recovering and delivering healthy prepared meals to local communities. Our meal recovery program provides a bridge between families needing food and food providers with excess to share.
