These internships provide hands-on experience working with cutting-edge silicon photonics technology in a fast-paced startup environment.\r\nThis is a paid internship expected from June 2026 through August 2026.\r\nPlease submit your resume and indicate which internship position(s) you are applying for.\r\nCompensation: $35 - $50/hr\r\nAvailable Internship Positions\r\nCandidates should indicate their preferred internship(s) when applying.\r\n1) Photonics Device Modeling Intern\r\nLocation: Hybrid – Santa Clara, CA or Goleta, CA\r\nResponsibilities\r\nAssist with implementation and quality assurance of photonic device modeling tools and workflows\r\nDevelop and optimize design models for photonic devices and integrated circuits\r\nRun simulations and analyze data to support device performance and design validation\r\nCollaborate with photonics and process engineering teams\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field\r\nExperience with photonics simulation tools\r\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\r\n2) Reliability Engineering Intern\r\nResponsibilities\r\nAssist conducting reliability testing\r\nAnalyze reliability data and assist in reporting performance trends\r\nHelp develop reliability test plans for photonic components\r\nCollaborate with device, process, and test engineering teams\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nPursuing a degree in Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline\r\nFamiliarity with semiconductor reliability testing concepts is helpful\r\nStrong data analysis and documentation skills\r\n3) PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit) Engineering Intern\r\nLocation: On-Site - Santa Clara, CA or Goleta, CA\r\nResponsibilities\r\nSupport the design, layout, and verification of photonic integrated circuits\r\nAssist with simulation, characterization, and optimization of PIC components\r\nWork closely with cross-functional design and fabrication teams\r\nDocument design results and participate in design reviews\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nEnrolled in a degree program in Electrical Engineering, Applied Material Science, Applied Physics, or a related field\r\nInterest in silicon photonics or integrated circuit design\r\nStrong problem-solving, communication, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills.\r\nLocation: Onsite - Santa Clara, CA or Goleta, CA\r\nResponsibilities\r\nBuild and modify system level photonic test stations including PIC evaluation boards, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other high-end test equipment\r\nWrite Python code to execute and automate test programs\r\nCollect and analyze data, create test reports, and provide clear conclusions\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or related field\r\nBasic software coding experience, ideally in python\r\nBasic experience operating lab equipment\r\nSelf-starting and independent but able to collaborate with team member\r\nGeneral Internship Requirements\r\nCurrently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering or science program\r\nAbility to work in a collaborative, fast-moving R&D environment\r\nStrong communication and documentation skills\r\nAvailability to work onsite as required by the role\r\nWhy OpenLight Photonics?\r\nBe part of a cutting-edge startup with a strong history of technology innovation.
