Southeast Missouri State UniversitySalary: Depends on QualificationsJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202600017Location: Cape Girardeau, MODepartment: University School for Young ChildrenClosingPosition SummaryLEAD TEACHERUniversity School for Young ChildrenCollege of Education Health & Human StudiesFull TimeResponsibilitiesPlan and implement a developmentally appropriate educational program for young children birth-6 yearsAssess children's learning and plan curriculum based on individual and group needs and interestsWork with families in a culturally sensitive manner to build a family-inclusive programWork consistently on all requirements for Missouri state licensing and NAEYC accreditation Document children's learning through portfolios and informational displaysMaintain a safe and healthy learning environment Required QualificationsAssociate Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Elementary or Early Childhood Special Education or Bachelor's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education or Bachelor's degree in another field with 36 or more higher education credits in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, or child development (May 2026 graduates will be considered)Experience teaching children aged 6 weeks to 6 years Experience implementing NAEYC developmentally appropriate practicesKnowledge of techniques used to assess children's development including developing portfoliosKnowledge of Missouri and NAEYC program accreditationFamiliarity with current trends in early childhood education including Creative Curriculum, Reggio Emilia, the Project Approach, and emergent curriculumExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work well as a member of a teamStrong organizational skillsAbility to interact effectively with young children and families, university students, faculty, staff and publicAbility to meet the physical needs of the children including: lifting, holding, feeding, and diaperingAbility to lift up to 50 lbs., stoop, bend, stretch, reach, kneel, sit on the floor, and be physically activeDemonstrated experience and understanding of customer serviceRequired Information & DeadlineApplication Deadline: The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
