Electrical Journeyman – Solar & Energy Systems

Position Overview We are hiring a Solar-Focused Electrical Journeyman to support residential, commercial, and off-grid solar + energy storage installations across Hawaiʻi. This is a hands-on, field-based role working on solar PV, inverters, batteries, and advanced energy systems. You’ll work independently or with a crew, execute installations to code, and troubleshoot real-world system issues—not just pull wire. If you’re comfortable on rooftops, inside electrical panels, and around modern energy tech, this role is for you. Key ResponsibilitiesSolar & Electrical Installation Install and wire solar PV systems, inverters, and battery storage Perform AC/DC electrical work per NEC and local code Execute clean, professional workmanship on residential and commercial sites Support off-grid and microgrid system builds when required Troubleshooting & Diagnostics Diagnose inverter, battery, and production issues Use multimeters and diagnostic tools to resolve system faults Identify and correct code violations or installation deficiencies Plans, Code & Quality Read and interpret single-line diagrams and plans Ensure all work meets NEC, AHJ, and utility requirements Assist with inspection readiness and corrections Team & Field Coordination Work with project managers, RMEs, and operations Lead helpers or junior techs when assigned Maintain professional, customer-facing communication on site Required Qualifications Journeyman Electrician License (Required) Solar PV experience (hands-on, field-based) Strong knowledge of: NEC (solar + storage sections) AC/DC electrical systems Inverters and battery systems Single-line diagrams Ability to work independently in the field Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor conditions Willingness to travel between islands as needed Clean driving record Able to pass drug screening Professional, customer-facing demeanor Preferred Qualifications Experience with battery systems (Enphase, Fortress, EP Cube, etc.) NABCEP Certification OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Off-grid or microgrid experience Prior solar service or troubleshooting experience Work Environment Field-based across residential, commercial, and renewable energy sites Flexible hours with variable day lengths Mix of installs, upgrades, service, and troubleshooting Benefits Competitive hourly pay ($38–$58/hr DOE) Health benefits Work on cutting-edge solar and energy storage systems Growth opportunities within advanced energy and microgrid projects This Role Is NOT a Fit If You: Want non-solar electrical work only Prefer shop-only or indoor roles Need constant supervision Are uncomfortable with rooftops or field conditions This Role IS a Fit If You Are: Solar-experienced and field-capable A problem solver who takes ownership Calm under pressure on active job sites Proud of clean, code-compliant work Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Pay: $42.95 - $60.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 40 per week Benefits: Dental insurance Health insurance Vision insurance People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply Work Location: In person
