The elastic infrastructure FDB runs on is being built from the ground up and is envisioned to be a cloud agnostic, fully automated manageability platform that provides:\nAutoscaling and auto-balancing of clusters based on utilization, traffic and workloads\nAuto-provisioning of new clusters with zero manual intervention\nSelf-healing capabilities that prevent, mitigate and resolve any production impact\nBuilt-in configuration management that guarantees FDB runs correctly and on the intended topologies\nSelf-optimizing COGS efficiency, ensuring we run our clusters at optimal utilization\nWe are looking for an exceptional Senior Engineering Manager to join and grow this high-impact team.\n\nAS A SENIOR ENGINEERING MANAGER AT SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL:\nLead the team responsible for the health and growth of the FDB platform service at Snowflake.\nLead and participate in technical, design, and product discussions related to the scalable distributed system solutions for our cloud agnostic platform, which have a material impact on the product.\nEnsure reliability, performance and scale of the services you own in production.\nDevelop the future leaders of Snowflake by providing continuous mentorship, coaching, and growth opportunities\nTranslate product requirements into engineering work for your team, reaching out to others for assistance as needed\nPartner with other leaders in the Engineering and Product organizations on quarterly planning, staffing, and project schedules\nKnow how and when to shift resources across areas to achieve execution goals and respond to lessons from production issues\nUse your strong foundation as a technical leader to reliably deliver on complex projects while keeping the quality bar high\nGrow the team by recruiting and hiring new team members and growing existing ones\nFoster a culture of creativity and innovation while also promoting practical decision-making\nOUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE MANY OF THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCES AND CAPABILITIES.\n12+ years industry experience designing, building and supporting large scale infrastructure in production.\n7+ years of experience in managing and leading teams to build large scale systems or databases.\nExperience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems supporting stateful services.\nExperience in container orchestration, cluster management, and autoscaling.\nSolid understanding of the internals of Kubernetes, Mesos, OpenShift, or other container platforms.\nExcellent understanding of operating systems concepts including scheduling, IO subsystem, multi-threading, memory management, networking and storage, performance and scale.\nStrong hands-on skills.
