Senior Power System Engineer
OverviewKimley-Horn's Greenwood Village, Colorado (CO) office is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in advanced power system studies, with a strong focus on electromagnetic transient and dynamic simulations, to join our growing Power Delivery team in Denver, CO. This role supports utility-scale generation, BESS, substations, and data center projects, with an emphasis on evaluating system performance under transient and dynamic conditions.ResponsibilitiesPerform EMT simulations in PSCAD for renewable generation, BESS, and hybrid systemsConduct dynamic (RMS) studies using PSSE or equivalent toolsAnalyze and simulate:Temporary Overvoltages (TOV)Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV)Switching transients and fault responseLoad rejection and load ramp eventsInterpret and apply applicable standardsPrepare technical reports and study documentation with clear methodologies and conclusionsCoordinate with multidisciplinary teamsQualifications4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role in Power System StudiesProfessional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's Degree Preferred)Understanding of:Transient and dynamic system behaviorProtection coordination and system response during faultsFamiliarity with interconnection and grid compliance studiesProficiency in:PSCADPSSEAbility to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staffPreferredExperience with hybrid systems (BESS + generation + large loads)Exposure to data center or industrial load modelingExperience with additional tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPowerKnowledge of:IEEE 2800IEEE 1547Utility-specific interconnection requirements (e.g., ERCOT, WECC, BPA)Salary Range:* $100,000 - $165,000* Eligible for Performance Based Bonus CompensationWhy Kimley-Horn?At Kimley-Horn, we do things differently.
