Senior Backend Engineer

Paper Run is an early-stage startup reinventing how eCommerce brands engage customers through automated direct mail.We're looking for a Senior Full Stack (Backend) Engineer who thrives on building clean, scalable systems quickly. You'll play a key role in shaping our backend architecture—from API design and data pipelines to job processing and observability.Design and build robust backend systemsArchitect scalable infrastructure for job processing, analytics, and event trackingBuild internal tooling for rate limiting, quotas, and authenticationDesign, develop, and maintain APIs and backend servicesCollaborate closely with product, design, and CX to deliver exceptional featuresOptimize for performance, security, and scalabilityStay current with emerging technologies and apply them thoughtfullyLanguages: Python, TypeScriptInfrastructure: AWS (ECS, SQS, Parameter Store), Docker, GitHub ActionsMonitoring: LogFire, SentryCI/CD: GitHub Actions About You4+ years of experience building production-grade backend systemsSkilled at writing clear, maintainable code with solid abstractionsConfident designing databases, APIs, and infrastructureExperience with high-throughput systems or background job queuesStrong sense of end-to-end ownership—code, infra, tests, monitoringare deeply about developer experience for your teammatesExperience with rate limiting, authentication systems, or quota trackingFamiliarity with analytics & attribution engineering (e.g., dbt, Snowflake, event tracking)Experience building WYSIWYG editorsKnowledge of PDF generation, render jobs, and image editing.Experience with SSR frameworks (Next.js, Remix)Join the Paper Run squad.Join the Paper Run squad.We're building Paper Run to help e-commerce brands reach and retain customers.
