Description Position Summary The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting. Responsibilities Accurately complete patient interviews and collect appropriate specimens. Assist the physician with patient exams and maintain departmental inventory. Provide patient education and ensure quality direct patient care and non-professional services as directed by the Physician. Perform phlebotomy for diagnostic studies and CLIA waived testing. Complete EKGs and drug and alcohol testing as required. Participate in performance improvement efforts and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. As part of the Virtualist Program, collect patient intakes remotely and assist in telehealth visits as directed by the physician. This program excludes hands‐on patient exams, procedures, specimen collection or phlebotomy for diagnostic studies, and BLS certification is excluded. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; graduate of a Medical Assistant program required. Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred. BLS/HCP certification within six months of hire or transfer. Graduate of a post‐secondary Medical Assistant program accredited by a national acceding agency with a minimum of 330 hours of instruction, including special training in medication administration as per the NJ Board of Medical Examiners. All Certified Medical Assistants must maintain active National Certification with an approved agency. 1–3 years of prior experience in ambulatory care preferred. Ability to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; skill required within 30–60 days from hire. Performance Expectations Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. Work Environment Potential exposure to hazards of a medical office environment, blood borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and injury. Requires considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, long periods of telephone work, and frequent lifting of 25–50 lbs and occasionally 50–100 lbs. Periodic travel to other department locations is expected. Essential functions are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Reporting Relationship This position reports to department leadership as assigned.
