Seven years' experience as a full-time paid Firefighter/EMT in a full-service fire department including four years of experience at the Company Officer level. Two of those four years at the Company Officer level may be in an acting-in-capacity role. In lieu of the Bachelor's degree requirement, an Associate's degree in Business, Risk Management, Public Administration, Fire Services Administration or related field may be considered along with two years of experience as a full-time paid and/or acting-in-capacity Command Officer -OR- Four additional years' experience as a full-time Company Officer in a full-service fire department. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to perform the essential functions, and maintain the required skills and certifications of the positions of Firefighter, Engineer Apparatus Operator, and Lieutenant. Thorough working knowledge of the City of Corvallis Administrative Policies and department policies, procedures, standards, operating guidelines, rules and the ability to participate in their establishment and enforcement. Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports, including the ability to plan and organize work. Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex material, such as contractual language, OSHA, EEO/AA, and NFPA regulations. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to speak in public. Excellent public service skills under emergency and non-emergency conditions. Ability to get along well with coworkers and maintain effective work relationships, including effective labor relations. Ability to use a computer to perform the essential functions of the position. Adherence to knowledge, health, and physical fitness standards established by the department. Adherence to City and Department policies including smoking, drugs, alcohol, grooming, and residency. Special Requirements State of Oregon Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) Certification required. Ability to successfully complete: NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800; and AWR 160 training. NFPA Fire Officer I certification required. Ability to obtain NFPA Fire Officer II certification by the end of probationary period. Wildland Engine Boss certification or equivalent is required. Wildland Strike Team/Task Force Leader certification or equivalent is preferred. Completion of the NFA Command and Control Training or equivalent is preferred. Completion of the NFA Hazardous Materials Incident Commander or equivalent is preferred. Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Oregon Drivers License. Must successfully meet the physical demands of duties in accordance with NFPA Standard 1580. Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including criminal history check. Ability to obtain and maintain Oregon State Police Criminal Justice Information Systems clearance.
