General Excavating specializes in the construction of underground utilities, natural gas distribution, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures.\n\nThe Superintendent is expected to manage construction and close construction projects that generate profits for the company. This role is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day management of several projects and onsite operators, tradesman and laborers. Directs, schedules, supervises and coordinates activities of operators and tradesmen to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities and personnel. Provides overall management of construction project sites and procurement through final acceptance, while ensuring project safety. Maximizes profits and controls costs to maintain stability and growth of the organization by performing the following duties personally and through subordinates.\n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:\n\nStudies specifications to plan procedures for appropriate construction methods on the basis of project start and completion time.\nStudies staffing and equipment requirements for each phase of construction and directs and supervises construction activities and related workers/equipment needs.\nProcurement of materials, tools and rental equipment at specified times to conform to work schedules.\nRecruiting, hiring, training, managing and mentoring employees and contractors\nConfers with and directs onsite personnel engaged in planning work procedure, executing work procedure, interpreting specifications and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays. This role includes subcontractors.\nConfers with supervisory personnel, owners, engineers, contractors, inspectors, material suppliers and/or equipment dealers to resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems to improve construction methods and performance.\nInspects or reviews work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications, schedules and safety compliance.\nPrepares recommendations for management evaluation.\nPrepares or reviews reports on progress and costs related to materials, equipment and labor used and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.\nControls any disputes with the public and customer, including damage to personal property and damage or repair to public facilities.\nConfers and cooperates with other onsite personnel in formulating administrative, operational policies and procedures.\nInvestigates and reports damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.\nImplement new or modified plans in response to delays, bad weather, or construction site emergencies.\nProvide effective and accurate communication to supervisors, owners, subcontractors and subordinates by telephone, email, in person or written form to ensure project details and company information is efficiently relayed.\nMonitors compliance with project safety program requirements. Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented as necessary.\nEnforces compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental regulations.\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:\n\nAbility to work productively alone or with others\nProblem-solving abilities\nCommunicate effectively\nWork efficiently and effectively\nBe self-motivated\nAbility to make sound decisions\nMust be able to remain calm during stressful situations and work through any challenges or issues which may arise\nMust be able to know when to ask for help when a job task exceeds their skills or abilities\nQualifications\n\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.\n\nReasoning Ability\n\nAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.\n\nCertificates, Licenses and Registrations\n\nValid driver’s license.
