ABOUT VOORHEES UNIVERSITYIn celebration of its 125th year of existence on April 7, 2022, Voorhees College was renamed Voorhees University to honor founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wight. Voorhees University is a private, diverse, historically black, coeducational, liberal arts, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Through this charge, greater emphasis will be placed on high performing learners, highly accomplished faculty and staff, an involved community, and a supportive and dedicated alumni base.The Dean of the School of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences will lead the faculty comprised of the following majors, minors, and certificate programs: Child Development, Criminal Justice, Interdisciplinary Studies, Mass Communications, Psychology, Sociology, and Theological Studies.The Dean will lead the campus-wide partnership effort to ensure that the curriculum and experiential opportunities in the school are aligned with the best practices in guided career pathways so that during their matriculation, students will have direct career mapping leading to graduate/professional studies and lucrative employment in the major field of study. Additionally, the Dean will lead the school effort in establishing, implementing, and assessing the recruitment plan for all academic programs.Position: Dean, School of Humanities, Education, and Social SciencesDivision: Academic AffairsSalary Range: $70,000 - $85,000FLSA Classification: ExemptPosition Type/Duration: Full Time/12 MonthsPosition Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday (evenings and weekends required)ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLead the School of HESS programming, assessment, and accreditation efforts.Seek and secure external funding to support scholarly activity and coordinate fundraising and resource development.Recruit, retain, and develop high-quality faculty with a goal of fostering diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.Recruit and retain students majoring in HESS DisciplinesDevelop, implement, and evaluate program goals, objectives, academic policies, and services that are consistent with the mission/philosophy and strategic plan.Coordinate program reviews and discuss program outcomes in collaboration with appropriate faculty.Coordinate curriculum development and assessment; develop new academic programs and teaching modalities, including online and distance options.Cultivate a collegial, collaborative, diverse environment with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and the community.Facilitate resolution of conflicts of all types, including assisting in the resolution of students' concerns and grievances; adjudicate academic suspensions and other student performance issues.In collaboration with institutional marketing & communications staff, develop marketing plans for the School of HESS to include advertisement, design, placement, and traffic.Serve as media contact representing the school at the local, state, and national levels.Provide leadership, evaluate, and supervise faculty/direct reports in performing duties as charged.Participate in community outreach; form and sustain lasting professional partnerships with relevant constituents (community representatives and professional stakeholders); facilitate cooperative working relationships with the clinical placement facilities and establish innovative partnerships.Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications & ExperienceAn earned terminal degree in an academic discipline offer by the School of HESS from an accredited institution.A record of distinguished accomplishments and ability to earn tenure at the rank of Associate or Professor.Exercised ability to manage complex academic organizations, work effectively and collegially with all members of the campus and community, promote shared governance, and exhibit excellent communication skills, sound judgement and decisive leadership.Experience successfully supervising and managing office personnel;A record of successful program planning, implementation, and evaluation;Demonstrated commitment to shared The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.PHYSICAL DEMANDS* Standard OfficeEDUCATION* Doctoral degree in a Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences area preferred.* Master's degree considered.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSFive years of experience as a college administrator (dean, associate dean, department chair, director or comparable senior level officer) including a demonstrated history of strong leadership and successful implementation of complex initiatives and demonstrated experience with budget management.Experience with review and assessment of existing programs.Experience with the development of new degree programs, including curricula, resource planning (including funding), assessment, and accreditation support.Excellent communication skills, student-centered, sense of humor.APPLICATION INFORMATIONReview of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.Please submit an employment application, cover letter detailing your interest and qualifications for the position, resume, and relevant transcript to apply.
