By delivering real-time visibility as a service, we help pilots, drivers, and marines make better decisions, ensuring they get home safely.\nAbout the Job\nMontis is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to own development of the company’s software stack, including Stratus, FlightVis, and the MWOS. You will be responsible for all software development related to the MWOS — from cloud infrastructure and back-end services to deployment, security, and fleet connectivity for remote observation systems operating 24/7 in demanding environments. This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced engineer and technical leader who wants the ownership, autonomy, and pace that come with building at an early-stage startup, and who is comfortable wearing many hats as the company grows.\nDuties\nOwn all software development related to the MWOS, including cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, data and imagery collection systems, and remote fleet managemen\nLead architecture, development, and maintenance of Montis’s full software stack, including Stratus and FlightVis\nDesign, deploy, secure, and monitor cloud-native infrastructure supporting 24/7 remote weather observation\nWork closely with hardware engineers and manufacturing technicians to integrate software with sensors, cameras, and embedded systems\nEstablish and maintain engineering standards for code review, testing, documentation, security, and observability\nManage software contractors and consultants as needed; provide project schedules, cost estimates, and technical planning to leadership\nSupport customer deployments, troubleshooting, and field operations, including regular work at our Palmer/Wasilla shop\nQualifications\nB.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience\n10+ years of professional software engineering experience preferred; candidates with less experience and a demonstrated commitment to early-stage startup environments will be considered\nProven experience as a principal engineer, cloud architect, and/or technical lead\nStrong full-stack skills, including Node.js, Python, JavaScript/React, SQL and relational databases, Linux, and shell scripting\nDeep cloud infrastructure experience (AWS and/or Google Cloud), including Kubernetes, Terraform or CloudFormation, Docker, and CI/CD tooling; experience with remote or edge devices, imagery pipelines, or aviation and weather systems a plus\nBased in Alaska (or willing to relocate) with the ability to travel regularly to our shop in Palmer/Wasilla\nPay & Benefits\nCompetitive salary, dependent on experience\nEmployee stock options\nMedical, dental, and vision insurance\nFlexible hours\nCompensation for this role will depend on a wide range of factors, including (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and business considerations.
