Job SummaryCertified Occupational Therapist Assistant (“COTA”) to provide quality care to our patients. Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, the COTA helps plan and implement patient treatment, plan and coordinate patient discharge, and prepare detailed progress reports and appropriate patient documentation. Treatments will include training in daily living activities, functional skills, motor development, compensation techniques, use of adaptive equipment and splinting. The COTA will not be expected to perform patient evaluations. The COTA will continually collaborate with the rehab team in order to coordinate the most effective occupational therapy program.Responsibilities And DutiesEssential Responsibilities and Expectations Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist:Determine patients’ treatment needsParticipate in patient assessment, including providing information to the Occupational Therapist for analysisProvide patient treatment and services, as recommended by the Occupational TherapistEnsure treatment programs meet patients’ needsRecommend termination of services or treatment, as necessaryReport to Clinical Director or AdministratorTreat patients according to the treatment plan written by the Occupational TherapistCommunicate regularly with supervisor, other members of the rehabilitation team, and family regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and prognosisRecord evaluations, daily treatment notes, re-assessments, and discharge summaries per Company policy and procedureComplete all required documentation from your daily treatments/interventions prior to leaving the facilityEducate patient families and caregivers in treatment and any applicable maintenance programsParticipate in discharge planningSubmit all billing and necessary information prior to leaving the facilityReport any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediatelyComply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelinesComply with Company rules, policies and proceduresComply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and proceduresReport to work regularly and on-timeAdditional Responsibilities And Expectations Be willing and able to act as a Mentor for new OT/COTA or recently hired OT/COTAUnder the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, provide necessary training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including:Supervise level 1 and level 2 students regularlyProviding clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students’ academic programsInforming student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelinesCompleting any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic programProviding clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students’ academic programsInforming student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines, andCompleting any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic programAssumes other duties as assigned.DISCLAIMER: If you are fluent in another language, when and if needed you will also provide assistance in the following translation tasks:Reading, writing, creating, editing documentsAttending evaluations/progress reports/and treatments to provide translation between provider and patient/caregiverAnswering phones and translating caller needsOther translation needs when necessary Physical And Mental RequirementsThese physical and mental demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the OT.
