This role blends strategy with hands-on execution and partners closely with HR, Payroll, and Accounting to ensure our people are paid accurately, supported with strong benefits, and set up for long-term success.You’ll also lead and develop a strong payroll and benefits team, helping drive accuracy, efficiency, and growth.ResponsibilitiesOversee end-to-end payroll for a large, multi-state workforce (weekly, bi-monthly, monthly)Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws (including California)Partner with HR on onboarding, terminations, and employee changesLead process improvements and automation efforts, especially in payroll and timekeepingManage and improve our benefits and wellbeing programsOversee 401(k) plans for both union and non-union employeesEnsure accurate contributions, reporting, and compliance (including audits and filings)Partner with brokers and vendors to stay competitive and cost-effectiveLead open enrollment and ongoing employee educationEnsure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other regulationsStay ahead of regulatory changes and adjust programs as neededHelp shape compensation and benefits strategies that support business goalsLead, coach, and develop payroll and benefits team membersServe as a go-to resource for complex payroll or benefits questionsCreate clear, simple communication to help employees understand their total rewardsQualifications5+ years of payroll experience, ideally in a large, multi-state environment3+ years working with retirement plans (401k)Experience supporting both union and non-union employees preferredStrong knowledge of payroll and benefits complianceExperience with HRIS systems and integrationsCalifornia payroll experience requiredA leadership mindset with a focus on team development and continuous improvementA Plus, But Not RequiredCertifications such as CEBS, CPP, or similarBachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Business, or related fieldAt CDM, we’re committed to building strong teams, investing in our people, and creating opportunities for growth.
