Our accounting department needs a leader. Not a title-holder. A leader. We need someone who can walk in, take ownership of the books across all nine companies, and actually run things. Close the month. Reconcile the intercompany. Chase the receivable. Fix the process. Train the team. Hold the meeting. Follow up on Monday when someone said they'd have it by Friday.\n**This is a hands-on role.** You will own the general ledger, oversee AP and AR, manage accounting staff, and be responsible for everything from monthly close to year-end financials. Intercompany billing, equipment depreciation, amortization schedules, job cost reporting, multi-state tax compliance. It's complex, it's dynamic, and it needs someone who's sharp enough to untangle it and organized enough to keep it straight.\nFLSA Classification: Exempt (Salary)\nEssential Functions/Responsibilities:\nFull ownership of the general ledger across all Hays Group entities, including monthly close, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations\nOversight and management of the AP department (AP Manager and clerks), AR function, and staff accounting\nIntercompany billing, allocations, and reconciliations across nine entities with shared equipment, labor, fuel, and overhead\nYear-end financial statement preparation and close\nFixed asset and depreciation schedules, equipment loan amortization schedules, and quarterly reconciliation against Sage\nCash receipt postings and AR aging management, including proactive collections follow-up and escalation of past-due accounts\nCredit card reconciliation and expense allocation across entities and job costs\nState tax filings and compliance (including Arizona TPT and multi-state obligations) -- either performed directly or supervised\nWeekly and monthly status reporting on department KPIs: open invoices, unapplied cash, aging buckets, unbilled revenue, and jobs with cost but no billings\nSupervision and development of accounting staff, including conducting regular team meetings, setting expectations, and holding people accountable\nQualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA designation is preferred.\n12+ years in accounting, with real construction experience (not \"I once worked near a job site\")\nSage 100. Non-negotiable.\nYou understand job costing, WIP, progress billings, T&M, and percentage-of-completion\nYou've managed intercompany transactions across multiple entities\nYou've led a team and actually held people accountable\nYou're willing to embrace AI and automation (we're modernizing, and we need you on board with that)\nAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.\nExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.\nStrong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both finance and non-finance professionals.\nDetail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.\nWho does well here:\nPeople who are proactive.
