Analyzes and interprets complex customer specifications and is accountable for managing the required technical calculations and documentation in conformance with the company’s quality systems as documented. Performs project engineering activities related to planning, directing, reporting, fabricating, assembling, and testing of products and projects. Functionally is the main Technical Point of Contact accountable for all technical aspects of a project and works directly with the Project Manager and customers to execute the work. Provides direction and mentorship to Design Engineers, Drafters, SME’s, and Design Interfaces (Sub-Vendors). This position can be responsible for handling novel Design Build, customer provided Build-to-Print designs, or both based on the candidate's background and experience.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nDesign Build Projects\nGenerate novel concept designs to develop a preliminary Work Breakdown for the Engineering effort attributed to proposal inputs and product development.\nUpon Project award, collect project-based Design Inputs, Design Interfaces, and Quality Program Requirements and combine them into an Engineering Design Plan including a milestone schedule.\nInitiate and author a Functional Requirements Document in the absence of a project-based customer user requirement.\nLaunch Engineering Kick-Off meetings with internal staff and project stakeholders to establish and communicate the project design tasks and resources based on the Engineering Plan.\nEstablish, Organize and Control the Design Basis (collection of Design Inputs) using a Compliance Matrix spreadsheet.\nCoordinate engineering disciplines (Designers, Drafters, SME’s) and manage discipline interfaces (sub vendors, contractors) on a per project basis.\nCoordinate design reviews with project stakeholders and engineering staff, and provide technical verification as needed per the applicable quality requirements.\nSupport the Project Manager by ensuring technical scope is properly implemented and progressing per the project schedule.\nFunction as the technical lead in customer facing reviews and status coordination meetings.\nReview and disposition Design Change Notices, Non-Conformance Reports, Field Change Requests, and Supplier Deviation Requests.\nManage technical scope changes and design deliverables under the company’s NQA-1 quality program.\nAssist the design teams as needed with 3D CAD, 2D drawings, and other design deliverables.\nDevelops BOM’s, material consolidations, and oversees engineering procurement activities.\nDevelops Production Travelers using software tools in conjunction with shop drawings and weld maps for fabrication.\nTrain and mentor junior engineers and drafters.\nBuild To Print Projects\nReview customer provided designs, specifications, drawings, inputs, and project engineering requirements for manufacturability and feasibility against ATG processes during the proposal phase.\nUpon Project award, collect project-based Engineering Requirements, Subcontractors, Manufacturing Requirements, and Quality Program Requirements and combine them into an Engineering Plan including a milestone schedule.\nLaunch Engineering Kick-Off meetings with internal staff and project stakeholders to establish and communicate the project tasks and resources based on the Engineering Plan.\nWorks with project teams and customers to ensure the products conform to customer requirements and meet customer needs.\nPlans and manages Engineering activities related to a project, including setting schedule milestones, review points, and critical path or long lead items.\nDevelops BOM’s, material consolidations, and oversees engineering procurement activities.\nDevelops Production Travelers using software tools in conjunction with shop drawings and weld maps for fabrication.\nPerforms or oversees factory and site acceptance testing, including traveling to customer facilities when required.\nSpecifies and quotes complex or non-stock items supporting procurement activities.\nSupports production staff for the duration of the fabrication schedule for design and procurement activities.\nQuality\nDevelops project-related conformance documentation – testing, manuals, plans, etc.\nProduces detailed technical submittal documents to satisfy quality tracking requirements.\nWrites deviation requests and non-conformance reports.\nOther\nAssists in engineering overhead activities – CAD administration, engineering procedure development, etc.\nCandidate must possess strong computer knowledge and be familiar with standard workstation office software (MS Office) in addition to SolidWorks, PRO/E, AutoCad or other drafting/modeling software, Solidworks strongly preferred.\nExperience with Manufacturing ERP systems such as Global Shop Solutions (GSS) is desired.\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nWill be required to lead or direct teams of engineers in design, planning, and execution of multiple projects.\nWill be required to lead or direct individuals, or teams in the completion of programmatic improvements and changes.\nWill be required to perform training activities related to engineering overhead programs.\nEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution (7+ yrs experience), or equivalent industry experience.\nMachine design or stainless-steel sheet metal design required.\nWell-rounded background in core mechanical engineering concepts.\nManufacturing/DFM/DFA background and experience required.\nFamiliarity or experience with Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standard strongly desired.\nPast DOE/DOD or other Government based project experience is highly desirable.\nSKILLS and ABILITIES:\nLANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS:\nAbility to write technical reports, correspondence, procedures, and processes\nAbility to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization\nAbility to coordinate and communicate with suppliers\nAbility to write technical reports, correspondence, procedures, and process documents\nMATHEMATICAL SKILLS:\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as calculations, specifications and code requirements, and procedure manuals.\nHas In-depth knowledge of diversified, fundamental scientific mechanical engineering concepts, phenomena, and relations.\nHas the knowledge of development and derivation of formulas and relationships, basic
