District Safety & Security Coordinator (Part-Time)MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (Master's preferred).2. Prior experience in crisis response, emergency management, law enforcement, school administration, or related field.3. Hours of employment shall be those established by the system.POSITION SUMMARY:The District Safety & Security Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and oversight of the district's comprehensive safety and security program in accordance with the Alabama School Security Act (Code of Alabama §16-22B-5). This position ensures compliance with all state safety mandates, oversees emergency preparedness planning, coordinates safety training and drills, and serves as the district liaison to law enforcement coordinating our SRO program. The Coordinator also liaises with all city, county, and state public safety agencies. The Coordinator is a central office employee with direct access to the Superintendent and possess prior crisis response experience as required by state law.REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include, but not be limited to) :Statutory Responsibilities (Required by Alabama Law)Serve as the designated District Safety Coordinator as required by the Alabama School Security Act.Complete required safety and emergency operations training within one (1) year of appointment.Organize and administer at least one (1) lockdown drill per semester and one (1) additional safety drill per semester.Annually convene a district-wide safety meeting with school administrators and local public safety partners.Ensure each school maintains a current Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and conduct annual reviews.Notify the Superintendent of any school lacking a compliant safety plan and ensure corrective action.Collaborate with the Board of Education to develop policies related to security camera data sharing and remote access controls.Attend a minimum of four (4) safety-related professional development sessions annually.Operational & Leadership ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain a comprehensive district-wide safety and security framework. Coordinate the district SRO program.Coordinate threat assessment teams and behavioral threat protocols. Serve as primary liaison between the district and local, state, and federal public safety agencies.Oversee safety audits, risk assessments, and facility security reviews. Provide training to administrators and staff on emergency response procedures. Assist with crisis response coordination during emergencies.Support grant writing and compliance reporting related to school safety funding. Collaborate with Facilities, Technology, Student Services, and Transportation departments on integrated safety initiatives.Maintain documentation of drills, safety plans, training sessions, and compliance requirements.Present safety updates and reports to the Superintendent and Board as requested.PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES :Certification or training in ICS/NIMS.APOST certified.Experience in K-12 safety administration.Background in behavioral threat assessment.This position requires frequent interaction with school administrators, law enforcement officials, and public safety personnel.
