Job Overview
As a Soul Food restaurant, we are looking for someone who is passionate about cooking and takes pride in the food they put out. The ideal candidate will possess leadership skills, prior culinary experience, and a passion for delivering exceptional food experiences.
The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items accurately, according to restaurant standards, with minimal waste. He or she is expected to learn and apply company terminology, menu items, and plating preference while at work. This role involves overseeing kitchen activities/operations in an efficient manner, managing food production, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality.
Additionally, the Cook is expected to set up equipment and complete inventory management/verify stock, among other tasks. This position requires you to stand for several consecutive hours during a shift, handle and/or lift up to 30 pounds, and have full usage of arms and hands in order to perform repetitive cooking tasks.
Duties
Supervise food preparation processes, ensuring consistency in taste, presentation, and portion control
Assist with food prep, station/area setups, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace
Ensure compliance with food safety standards, including monitoring food handling procedures, and sanitation regulations across all kitchen areas
Coordinate catering events, and special functions with attention to detail and quality standards
Oversee the "Specials" menu development, planning, and execution as needed
Communicate effectively with the team to maintain efficient service flow
Manage inventory control, ordering supplies, and maintaining proper stock levels for all kitchen ingredients and equipment
Collaborate with management on restaurant operations
Maintain a positive team environment by providing leadership and/or mentorship when opportunities arise
Skills
Previous kitchen experience
Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy shifts while maintaining attention to detail
Knowledge & skills in utilizing various cooking techniques
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation practices
Skilled in operating kitchen equipment
Strong work ethic and a positive, team-first attitude
Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with staff and management
Experience in inventory management and inventory control
Reliability and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
Pay: From $2,600.00 per month
