Student Administrative Appeal/NYSOP Academic Advisor **POSITION DETAILS** The NYSOP (New York State Opportunity Promise) Academic and Student Administrative Appeal Advisor provides tailored academic advising, outreach, and career guidance to adult learners (ages 25-55) with some college credit and no degree. The NYSOP advisor will help students re-enroll, navigate program requirements, and ensure successful degree completion. In addition to supporting the NYSOP students, the Advisor will also coordinate the College's Student Administrative Appeal process. This includes and is not limited to cases involving student record reconciliations due to extenuating circumstances. + Advises students who experience some form of academic difficulty during their college career and are interested in furthering their education. + Works with students to create academic plans, avail themselves of college resources, scholarships,make progress towards degree completion, successful transfer, and career exploration. + Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Student Development and Enrollment Management, the successful candidate will provide ongoing support to students who need to file administrative, academic, and Satisfactory Academic Progress (Title IV, TAP, Readmission of at-risk and non-traditional students). + Conducts workshops and informs students about enrollment deadlines, campus policies, and procedures. + In coordination with supervisor, makes recommendations on administrative review decisions after review of all written appeals and supporting documents. + Maintains records and monitors academic progress of NYSOP students & students submitting administrative appeals; prepares reports for campus leadership. + Orients at-risk students on federal guidelines regarding the Academic Appeals and Title IV Appeal processes. + Communicates decisions to students and works with students on follow-up. + Assesses the impact of interventions and shares with leadership for planning purposes. + Communicates processes to Advisement Units and other stakeholders. + Responds to student inquiries in accordance with policies and procedures in a timely manner. + Provides enrollment support and works collaboratively with Admissions and Advisement Units to support enrollment related activities. + Works collaboratively with Financial Aid, OAA, Bursars, Admissions, Accessibility Resource Center, and Advisement Units to assist students. + Assesses the impact of intervention provided to NYSOP student cohorts on retention. + Attends meetings and events on campus and externally to uplift matters affecting student retention. + Essential duties require on-campus presence. **QUALIFICATIONS** Bachelor's Degree required. The following qualifications are preferred: + Two years of experience + Experience working in higher education setting + Experience using CUNY systems including CUNYFirst + Availability to work evening and weekend hours when required + Bilingual skills is highly desirable **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Provides academic counseling and planning services to a diverse student population. - Assists students with clarifying values and goals; counsels students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures. - Offers academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process - Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services - Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits - Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses - May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups - Performs related duties as assigned.
