Neurodiagnostic Technologist III, Full-Time Nights
Job Description Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine , as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist III in the Pediatric Epilepsy Center. In this role, you will perform restorative care activities with a patient centered focus and provide surveillance and basic interpretation of various physiological monitoring for our patients. Neurodiagnostic Technologist III performs all required standard studies independently. Performs complex studies under minimal supervision, including EEG during Pet and SPECT Scan, Neonatal EEGs, and WADA test. May need some experience in performing diagnostic evoked potentials: VEP, BAER, SSEP, and nerve conductions studies. Incumbents in the Technologist III position carry additional responsibilities above and beyond their clinical role, which includes providing guidance to junior technicians. Essential Job Functions Explains procedure, answers pertinent procedure questions, documents medical history and other relevant information. Documents patient history in electronic medical record according to ACNS and departmental guidelines. Utilizing paste or collodion and adhesive tape applies electrodes according to the 10/20 System. Adds additional electrodes according to 10/10 Modified Nomenclature System. Obtains standard or extended recordings in an outpatient area or as a portable study in the ED, ICU, NICU, EMU, radiology or inpatient units. Recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them utilizing intermediate troubleshooting techniques. Appropriately monitors other variables such as EKG, EMG, EOG, or respirations as technically or clinically indicated. Uses activation procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep, when appropriate and demonstrates additional activation procedures when necessary. Additional stimulation to be performed on unresponsive or comatose patients. Selects electrode combinations and demonstrates skill in creating new montages and equipment settings for electroencephalographic recordings when clinically indicated under indirect supervision. Determines the correct montages, filter changes, and activation procedures to enhance epileptic form activity or waveform morphology. Performs advanced procedures under direct supervision. Ability to correctly identify normal and abnormal EEG patterns. Summarizes the recording for the purpose of informing the physician of abnormalities observed during the test. Keeps equipment clean and in good operating condition. Familiar with diagnostic trouble shooting techniques, notifying supervisor of problems. Assists with scalp electrode placement and maintenance of scalp electrodes on intracranial grid patients utilizing 10/10 Modified Nomenclature under direct supervision. Required Qualifications Associate degree preferred but equivalent health care experience may take the place of a degree Graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostic Technology Program or completion of the ASET on-line 12 training modules Minimum of three (3) years performing standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures required Must possess ASET competency skills and knowledge required by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for national board certification CPR certified in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 90 days of hire Must be proficient with the International 10-20 and 10-10 system Minimum of three (3) or more years directly related experience Must have entry level knowledge of PC or Microsoft Windows Must possess the EEG Technologist Competencies set forth by ASET's National Competency Skill Standards Preferred Qualifications Associate degree but equivalent health care experience may take the place of a degree Position Details Full-Time (0.90FTE) Shift: Nights Unit/Department: Pediatric Epilepsy Center - Hyde Park CBA Code: Non-Union #UCMRT! The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis.
