Teaching or laboratory work experience in clinical blood banking within the past 5 years is required.. Current NY state licensure as a clinical laboratory technologist preferred, but not required.

Adjunct Instructor

Job Summary:

The candidate must be available during the scheduled five weeks of the Immunohematology course, spanning from June 26 to July 28, 2023.

The qualified individual hired for this position may also have the opportunity to continue adjunct work into the Fall semester to teach and manage the 5-credit hour Clinical Blood Banking course, which begins on September 18, 2023 and runs for 6 weeks (Monday-Thursday only).

Requirements for this course entails a blended approach in which the hired candidate will teach small groups of 4-5 students in the student laboratory, as well as creating and managing student scheduling at off-site clinical affiliate sites for laboratory rotations. In the Fall 2023 semester, a second cohort of 4-5 students will begin the Clinical Blood Banking course on Monday, October 30, 2023 and continue for 6 weeks (Monday-Thursday).

Minimum Qualifications:

The Clinical Laboratory Science Department at Upstate Medical University (UMU) is seeking an MLS(ASCP)-certified medical laboratory scientist with knowledge and expertise in blood banking/transfusion medicine. Teaching or laboratory work experience in clinical blood banking within the past 5 years is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current NY state licensure as a clinical laboratory technologist preferred, but not required. Prior experience utilizing the Brightspace learning management platform is preferred, but not required.
