Successfully completed a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified basic Police Recruit Academy and obtain and retain Special State Police (SSPO) powers in accordance with MGL Chapter 22C, section 63; Middlesex, Suffolk, and Worcester County Deputy Sheriffs powers; and applicable city and/or town special police authority as deemed necessary by the department.

Note: The Nucor Technical Academy is located and administered at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Nucor Technical Academy is a training program designed to teach electrical maintenance fundamentals and to train a person with a high school diploma (or GED) to the level of a maintenance electrician within a two-year (27 month) training period.

Provides other tasks in partnership with Crime Lab Leadership, the PLA directors and researchers, and Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Academy leadership as necessary. Produces policy needs- assessments through collaboration with directors, instructors and senior leadership of the Policing Leadership Academy and the University of Chicago Urban Crime Lab. Ensures awareness of and sensitivity to communication with a diverse workforce.

Please note: Since Policing contains perishable skills such as driving, tactical firearms, force options, arrest and control, and verbal communications, applicants who have obtained a POST Certification more than one year prior to application date, and have not worked in the capacity of a Peace Officer, may be required to reattend the Police Academy.
