Description WastewaterSCAN is a national effort to monitor wastewater for pathogens to improve infectious disease surveillance across the country. The project is led by Emory faculty Marlene Wolfe in partnership with Stanford professor Alexandria Boehm. Wastewater has been used extensively as a composite biological sample representing the inputs of a whole community. As such, a single sample can be used to infer information about the health of populations up to millions of people. Dr. Wolfe has worked extensively to apply this approach to SARS-CoV-2, influenza, RSV, monkeypox, and more. WastewaterSCAN is now expanding this process both to more sites across the country and to more pathogens to be monitored. There are also opportunities for additional projects building on this effort to expand the field of wastewater monitoring. The project will provide opportunities to interact with colleagues in public health, clinical virology, genetics, medicine and environmental engineering. We are seeking a Public Health Program Associate to support this and other wastewater monitoring related efforts. This role will focus on program management and coordination, data management and acquisition, document preparation and handling, data analysis, communication of results to stakeholders, and supporting manuscript development.
