NYLAG has an immediate opening for a staff attorney to be a part of the dynamic Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) team. For the remainder of the days, the Attorney will be located in our main offices in the financial district, as well as go to court, clinics, work remotely or staff and other locations as needed.

Reporting to the Directing Attorney, the Staff Attorney provides comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in CRLA priority areas in accordance with CRLA program guidelines, the ABA Standards for Providers of Civil Legal Services, and the Code of Professional Responsibility.

The Staff Attorney- Hotline provides legal counsel, brief services, referrals, and intake for in-house representation to clients in civil litigation and other legal proceedings. Provides guidance, refers cases, and monitors work of pro bono attorneys, volunteers, law students, and legal support staff on assigned cases.

In addition, the Staff Attorney Fellow will work in collaboration with the MLP Managing Attorney to supervise law student work. The Staff Attorney Fellow position provides an opportunity for a new or recent law graduate to assist clients with a wide variety of civil legal issues that present barriers to health outcomes.

The senior staff attorney will play a key role in our mission-driven growth across these areas of work by collaborating rigorously, under the leadership of our legal director, with internal and external colleagues and various allies and partners.

Staff attorneys will be responsible for zealously representing individuals pursuing benefits or seeking relief under the Immigration and Nationality Act. The Staff Attorney works as a team with Legal Assistant and other staff.

As the Lead Staff Attorney at Legal Hospice of Texas, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing our legal services initiatives, providing comprehensive support to our clients, including will preparation, estate planning, and more.

The Staff Attorney will focus on the Center’s immigration practice, in connection with the Center’s expansion to serve detained immigrant youth. Other responsibilities as assigned by Managing Attorney and/or Director.

The Staff Attorney is responsible for providing direct legalservices, including consultations and representation before the U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Executive Office forImmigration Review, and for conducting presentations and trainings to internaland external audiences, including community-based organizations and otherservice-based providers on matters of immigration law.

Must be a licensed attorney able to practice in the US. Must be bilingual English and Spanish. Respond to requests for information posed by local staff and other legal service providers, as appropriate.

CJA seeks a Staff Attorney to support an innovative program connecting unaccompanied undocumented minors with in-house wraparound legal and social services. This attorney will serve a caseload of approximately 30-35 unaccompanied youth released from Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters before state courts, Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR/ “Immigration Court”), USCIS, ICE, and occasionally other immigration agencies.

Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the Staff Attorney holds a key position in providing legal representation to low-income tenants and homeowners in the areas of eviction defense, affordable housing preservation, mortgage fraud, and other related areas.

The staff attorney will provide legal assistance in areas of general civil law, including but not limited to: employment, housing, foreclosure prevention, consumer, probate, special education, social security, public benefits and bankruptcy with an immediate emphasis on eviction defense, landlord-tenant law, housing related matters and legal matters meant to obtain, maintain and stabilize housing.

Supervises case work of assigned Legal Assistants, Senior Legal Assistants, Interns, or other non-legal staff as applicable; Legal representation may be before the Immigration Court (EOIR), the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), Administrative Appeals Office, in custody matters before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Asylum Office, State and federal courts, Department of State, agencies within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and in credible/reasonable fear interviews and applications for affirmative relief before United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS.

Participate in case reviews with attorney staff and support staff, and/or Managing Attorney/Legal Director, as applicable. The Senior Attorney is expected to have and develop expertise in the immigration law as well as stay up-to-date on immigration law and policies and to provide supervision, guidance and mentorship to attorneys, pro bono counsels, paralegals and/or law student interns.
