The Coverage Paraprofessional may be assigned to substitute for one-on-one and substantially separate classroom paraprofessionals. In some cases the Paraprofessional may be required to be a specific gender because of the nature of the work (toileting) or because of the individual history of the student.

A minimum of thirty-sixty college hours from an accredited college or university is required, pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of Missouri or Missouri 20-hour Online Substitute Training Program, sixty college hours is preferred.

Experience working as a paraprofessional and with working with visually impaired, blind, hard of hearing, deaf, deaf-blind, or multi-disabled students. The paraprofessional supports teachers in meeting the educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students in the classroom.
