- Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students.
- Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science.
- These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university.
- SWCC also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
- Reporting to the President, and working in collaboration with the Executive team, faculty, students and staff, the Vice President for Finance and Administration, will serve as a strategic, transparent, and thoughtful leader who is first and foremost dedicated to Southwest Virginia Community College's mission of providing quality educational and cultural enrichment opportunities for lifelong learners, workforce and community.
- The incoming Vice President for Finance and Administration must have effective and open-minded leadership skills to sustain and enhance the success of their team and the campus.
- Partner across campus to ensure ongoing, sustainable financial success, engage in best-practice campus safety planning, oversee updated and well-functioning facilities, and facilitate optimal IT practices.
- The Vice President will serve as a strategic and collaborative partner across campus, developing productive relationships with partners in other units that will advance the College's goals, including the strategic planning process currently underway.
- The Vice President will facilitate progress and buy-in on a number of initiatives, including capital projects, IT projects, balancing of funding sources, budget allocation processes, addressing deferred maintenance, and all while maintaining an overarching focus on the success and advancement of the College.
- In this way, the Vice President will play a key role in supporting the efforts of every department on campus, providing the resources and operational support that underpins the success of the College in the short- and long-term.
- Complex financial information in accessible terms and in sharing the rationale behind critical financial decisions.
- Complex IT information in accessible terms and sharing the rationale behind critical IT decisions.
- The VP must be thoughtful in their communication style, open to feedback, and strategic in their approach, tailoring messaging appropriately for any given audience.
- In addition, the Vice President will be able and willing to engage stakeholders in shared processes for budgeting and major projects that allows all voices to be heard.
- The Vice President will model respectful, consultative decision-making in a shared governance environment and will build trust around a shared commitment to the College's mission.
- Lead, empower, and support the Business Office, Facilities, Campus Police, and IT teams by understanding the importance of maximizing the contributions of their staff to effectively achieve goals.
- Through accessible and supportive leadership, accountability, clarity of purpose, and ongoing opportunities for professional development, the Vice President will enable the teams to more effectively serve the needs of the campus.
- A key element to success will include creating meaningful opportunities for growth and impact for all their staff.
- In addition, the Vice President will bring experience recruiting and retaining a diverse staff by fostering an inclusive sense of belonging and teamwork, upholding the College's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

- May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- A master's degree
- Directly related experience in progressively responsible management positions
- Leadership experience in comparable two or four year higher education institutions;
- In-depth knowledge of the full range of issues addressed by a finance and operations executive in a public and or governmental setting and or higher education;
- In-depth knowledge of a full range of issues addressed by IT operations in a public and or governmental setting and or higher education;
- In-depth knowledge of a full range of issues addressed by facilities operations in a public and or governmental setting and or higher education;
- Knowledge of accreditation standards pertaining to functional areas
- Knowledge of computer-related programs pertaining to finance and administration, including spreadsheet software
- Ability to appropriately use information and analytics in decision making
- Ability and willingness to learn
- Ability to think critically and strategically
- Excellent problem solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, advocate, and communicate effectively both internally and externally
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering campus diversity and inclusiveness, and the ability to interact effectively with diverse constituencies
- Earned Doctoral Degree in business or public administration, finance or closely related field or a CPA.
- Significant and progressive senior leadership experience in a college with a track record of being a thought leader with the President, diverse constituents and direct reports; with demonstrated excellence in roles of increasing senior financial management
- Prior involvement in ERP implementation projects and post-go-live activities
- Operation of a State Vehicle Yes Supervises Employees Yes Required Travel
- Travel will be required.
