  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and three years experience in a position involving collections OR combination of post H.S. education and business experience totaling seven years, which must include at least three years collections experience.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Knowledge of financial aid regulations, federal student loan regulations and University loan policy -Knowledge of federal collection laws -Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions -Demonstrated problem solving skills -Strong coaching and leadership skills -Excellent communication and customer service skills -Understanding of University tuition calculation process
  • GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Campus Liaison (25%): -Serve as intermediary with loan servicers, collection agencies, Twin Cities' Student Financial Systems control, Office of General Counsel, auditors and other University departments -Problem resolution with postings to student accounts -Coordination of Enterprise System Upgrade Program as relates to Student Accounts Receivable.
  • Regulations and Reporting (20%): -Review Federal and state regulations.
  • Determine affect and develop plan to document impact and/or implement changes necessary for Perkins loans, Primary Care Loans and also collection regulations.
  • Includes FDCPA, Graham Leach Biley act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, TILA/Regulation Z, FERPA and Statute of Limitations.
  • Complete annual PCI DSS review -Review monthly reports from loan servicer.
  • Review daily reports from EDMS -Analyze collection agency reports.
  • Train employees on campus in use of Student Financials module of PeopleSoft Student system -Interpret Civil Service rules and AFSCME contract -Special projects as necessary such as ebill/epay or 1098T -Any and all other duties as assigned

  • The philosophy of UMD Business Services is to set an example of credibility in financial services and financial management for the UMD campus and to be in the forefront of use of technology for financial processing.
  • The Student Accounts Receivable department is part of UMD Business Services.
  • It is responsible for the billing and collection of the Duluth campus tuition and fee accounts.
  • Financial Collections is responsible for the billing and collection of Federal Perkins loans and University Trust Fund loans.
