  • Full Job Description
  • The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.
  • The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
  • The Facilities Maintenance Section manages the four largest facilities in the Department's portfolio, One Police Plaza, the Police Academy, the Candidate Assessment Center, and the Police Lab.
  • Each facility requires at least one Stationary Engineer to be stationed in the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as per local law.
  • For each facility, the Stationary Engineers are required to maintain and prevent a failure of the Department's buildings critical mechanical systems.
  • If a Stationary Engineer is not on site, the facility must be closed until one is present in the building.
  • The selected Stationary Engineer.
  • operate, maintain and adjust steam power plant and electro-mechanical building equipment;
  • make periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment;
  • perform preventative maintenance,
  • take responsible charge of a watch, and while so engaged is responsible for and directs subordinate personnel, may operate control consoles in control rooms, prepare requisitions for materials and spare parts,
  • reads meters, gauges and other recording devices, and logs the data;
  • as directed, inspects low pressure boilers in accordance with a unified inspection procedure instituted by the New York City Department of Buildings.
  • Minimum Qual Requirements
  • A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
  • This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
