- Under the oversight of the Deputy General Counsel/Chief Counsel, the Senior Counsel is responsible for providing senior management with effective and actionable legal advice on corporate strategies and their implementation, drafting, negotiating and/or reviewing critical contracts, researching complex legal questions, representing MetroPlus in dispute resolutions, acting as litigation liaison for the Plan with the NYC Law Department and other outside counsel.

- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements (provider agreements, vendor agreements, requests for proposals, statements of work, etc
- Handle or coordinate resolution of legal and corporate matters by providing legal guidance or other legal assistance, as required, including as relates to issues and investigations (both internal and external) involving compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct legal research and provide legal opinions or other legal assistance as required.
- Coordinate litigation-related activities with HH Office of Legal Affairs and outside counsel.
- Create and manage a repository of legal documents, including complaints, litigation holds, and service records.
- Act as point of contact for inquiries from attorneys on various issues and manage any associated dispute resolution.
- Proactively communicate with internal divisions to become and remain educated about key legal issues affecting these areas.

- Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited institution
- Active New York State Bar Admission
- 7 years, post bar admission, experience in healthcare
- Knowledge of health insurance, managed care/government sponsored insurance products Preferred candidate will possess
- Contract drafting and negotiation experience
- Excellent analytical, organization, and oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of public health law
- Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite needed to function in a nearly paperless environment Professional Competencies

- The ability to comprehend and interpret regulatory, legislative, and contractual mandates
- Experience with managed care, Medicare and federal and state laws and regulations

- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, as well as conceptual and analytic skills are necessary to review and articulate corporate objectives and Federal regulations across all relevant audiences
