  • We are recruiting for a General Research Assistant for the Emory HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study.
  • Emory is part of a national consortium that will use state-of-the-art neuroimaging and developmental neuroscience to analyze brain development in opioid-exposed and non-drug-exposed infants and children across a variety of regions and demographics in the metro-Atlanta area.
  • Women will be recruited in pregnancy and followed over time to assess the outcomes in their offspring over the course of the child’s early childhood.
  • Successful candidates must have the ability to work professionally with parents and infants/children; strong organization skills, and an attention to detail.
  • The Research Assistant will be involved in various activities related to carrying out the project.
  • JOB DESCRIPTION:Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.
  • May assist in protocol design.
  • Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures.
  • Analyzes and interprets results of studies.
  • Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.
  • Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.
  • Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs.
  • Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Supports and/or participates in the research process by assisting research staff in management of subjects and data specific to the subspecialty of involvements assigned
  • Proactively supports efforts that will ensure delivery of safe participant care and services and promote a safe environment for expecting mothers and infants
  • Assisting with EEG and MRI data collection procedures
  • Observation and coding of parent-child interactions
  • Performing infant assessments using standardized tools
  • Assists in other research protocol conduct and facilitation, including participant screening, enrollment, study activities, and communicationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science in a field of study related to human development, clinical psychology, or public health
  • Data entry experience
  • Research experience with infants, children, and/or expecting mothers NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.
