- As the alter ego to the Center Director, the Principal Deputy Director provides executive leadership, direction, planning, coordination, and strategic vision to the Center on policies, activities, and operations in the scientific management of center programs.
- Contributes to and oversees expert-quality formal and informal reports that address vital issues, multi-functional studies and analytical approaches, expert-level findings and cogent, substantive recommendations that are primarily used as the basis for key executive-level management decisions.
- Directs the preparation of briefing documents, issue analysis, legislative proposals, and other documents required for the coordination of Division plans with the goals and objectives of the Center and CDC. Provides guidance in redirecting program commitments on a priority basis.
