  • JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.
  • The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc.
  • Designs and evaluates experiments.
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • May be responsible for operation of specific equipment.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff.
  • Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.
  • The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available.
  • Appointments cannot exceed five years.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph. D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
  • POST-DOCTORAL position available for two years, with possibility of renewal, to work with the Emory Enteric Viruses and Water Quality Lab led by Dr. Christine L. Moe, Eugene J. Gangarosa Chair of Safe Water and Sanitation in the Hubert Department of Global Health, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, USA. The lab is part of the Center for Global Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene at Emory University (www.
  • The Enteric Viruses and Water Quality Lab has long-standing collaborations with researchers in molecular virology, clinical research and epidemiology throughout the US and globally.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with faculty in Rollins School of Public Health, Emory School of Medicine, the Hope Clinic and Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit, and the Division of Viral Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Exciting scientific challenges and opportunities for career progression are available for motivated, high quality candidates.
  • The Fellow will be an integral part of a team of inter-disciplinary researchers conducting a clinical trials and epidemiologic studies of human norovirus infection.
  • Research activities will include study design, analysis of biological specimens, maintenance of clinical trial records, preparation of manuscripts, and supervision of junior researchers.
  • The Fellow will serve as a liaison between the laboratory and the clinical and regulatory teams.
  • We are seeking candidates with a doctoral degree in microbiology, epidemiology or related health field with substantive knowledge of infectious disease and molecular biology, and preferably with experience working on enteric viruses.
  • Candidates must have a strong laboratory background, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, strong organizational and record keeping skills, and excellent English writing and verbal skills.
  • Candidates with experience in virology and molecular diagnostics are preferred.
