- General Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse practitioners function in an expanded nursing role and perform selected tasks and services previously within the province of medicine as well as tasks that fall within the province of nursing.
- Nursing and medicine must maintain ongoing collaboration in education and practice so that the nurse practitioner is maximally effective in meeting the primary health-care needs of women.
- The obstetric-gynecologic/womens health nurse practitioner provides such care in collaboration with physicians, as well as with other members of the health-care team.
- Develop and implement plans for health promotion and health maintenance, including plans for disease prevention and provision of health education and counseling
- Provide assessment, education, and management for family planning and fertility control
