  • The Manager Life Safety Systems reports directly to the Chief of Police and represents the District to the community and other districts as pertaining to Life Safety Systems.
  • The incumbent will supervise and manage the activities and operations of the Fort Bend ISD Police Department's Life Safety Systems Bureau (LSSB).
  • Within the LSSB, the incumbent is responsible for planning, directing and monitoring related life safety systems services, supervision of assigned personnel, and providing highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Chief of Police.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate plans for installation, upgrades, and maintenance of all life safety systems within the district ensuring seamless integration of all new life safety systems into current operations
  • Provide project management on all security system improvements
  • Perform walk through of district sites and recommend safety and security strategies as they relate to Life Safety Systems
  • Oversee fire inspections and fire code compliance including filing of annual Tier 2 reports
  • Provide guidance and support to facility managers and appointed teams/committees in the maintenance and operation of life safety systems
  • Develop and implement appropriate training of all required district employees regarding the proper operation of life safety systems
  • Participate in designing, conducting and assisting campus, department and district emergency drills and exercises
  • Maintain records and submit reports as required by the Texas Safe Schools Act and other authority
  • Advise on site selection and facility construction/renovation planning as it pertains to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
  • Assist with continuous operations of life safety system activities on a 24 hour basis
  • Perform other reporting, recordkeeping, administrative and related work as assigned, such as annual employee performance appraisals
  • Assist in developing, preparing and revising mutual aid agreements and memorandums of understanding as appropriate
  • Participate in local, regional and state emergency preparedness meetings, training programs, drills, and exercises
  • Assist in maintaining collaborative liaison with local, state and federal authorities, entities of the public and private sector having life safety system functions and support capabilities
  • Act as grant administrator as assigned, responsible for grant applications, communications with grantor, adherence to grant conditions, and status reporting when applicable
  • Provide school related life safety system advice to the Superintendent and/or the Executive Team
  • Respond to natural and man-made disasters such as hurricane, tornado, fire, etc.

  • Establish and deliver training programs for new and existing staff to address pertinent issues related to safety, security, and life safety systems when necessary
  • Prepare and deliver detailed presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Keep abreast of best practices and developing trends in school based life safety systems
  • Keep the Chief of Police informed of all issues pertaining to the effective administration of the Life Safety Systems Bureau within the Police Department
  • Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of assigned staff
  • Initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources
  • Conduct the performance appraisals of assigned staff
  • Address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Maintain timesheets and approve overtime
  • Professional training in safety and/or security preferred
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Minimum of 7 years increasingly responsible experience in school based safety and security
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specialized life safety systems including but not limited to fire and intrusion systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employee access control point and employee identification badging systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security and camera systems and their applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards, regulations and requirements as promulgated by appropriate local, state and federal authorities, including the fire code
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school drill policies and procedures
  • Skill in interpreting law, policy, and procedure
  • In-depth knowledge of the districts alarm management and reporting system
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations as necessary
  • Work exposes employee to dangerous, hazardous, and potentially life-threatening situations, including natural and man-made disasters
  • Knowledge of all appropriate precautions, procedures and techniques is an absolute requirement
  • This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids
  • Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors in varying climate and weather conditions
  • Equipment used will include, but not be limited to, a motor vehicle, various safety equipment, information technology systems and a two way radio
  • Regular attendance is required for this position
  • Ability to be on call 24/7
