  • RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for the Fernald Interpretive Center Manager, this position supports the site's interpretive center staff to create mission based, educational/interpretive experiences for the public and stakeholders.
  • Overtime, the candidate will perform all duties of the Fernald Preserve Interpretive Center Manager, which includes but is not limited to supervising the development and implementation of engaging public educational/interpretive programs and activities for private groups and for the public.
  • This position will also oversee walk-in visitation and visitor services, special events, and serve as facility use coordinator.

  • Supervise, plan, coordinate, develop, and implement programs and activities that inform and engage internal and external stakeholders about the Fernald Preserve and DOE-LM's mission and activities.
  • Direct support to the Education Program Manager and to the Fernald Preserve Site Lead in conducting interpretive center, stakeholder engagement, and community group activities and associated support work.
  • Work will be conducted in partnership and coordination with site Management, Public Affairs, Operations, Safety & Health, Project Management, and Communications Products staff.
  • Provide interpretive center and site related information for public and private groups, visitors, partner groups, government, and non-government organizations on topics related to site history, remediation, and current conditions.
  • Lead and provide direct supervision of the site's interpretive center team who will engage and educate stakeholders.
  • Work includes staff mentoring, coaching, scheduling, and daily activity leadership and oversight.
  • Leading and directing complex projects involving many staff and working groups while maintain the team's focus on project goals, objectives, workloads, and schedule.
  • Conduct historical, scientific, and operational research that contributes to site knowledge in order to support public engagement, exhibit development, document production, and public media.
  • Plan, develop, write, and present on- and off-site interpretive school and scout programs and presentations in accordance with the state standards of education and scout badge requirements.
  • Oversee the development and distribution of Interpretive Center program publications and selected other site-specific literature including talking points, backgrounders, fact sheets, press releases, news stories, technical reports, outreach publications, brochures, digital content and other printed and electronic materials intended for distribution to the public or news media.
  • Support writing and developing programs, LM presentations, and temporary and/or permanent exhibits.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate public on- and off-site special events.
  • Conduct special use coordination for site activities conducted by external partners such as meeting room use, trail events, and similar.
  • Support nationwide STEM education initiatives.
  • Contribute to collaboration and professional development among peers at other LM sites, non-LM partner sites, and subject matter experts.
  • Lead and conduct site activities within the prescribed health & safety requirements, work authorizations, and controls.
  • Can-do attitude and willingness to utilize strong team-focused approach to accomplish tasks.
  • An ability to facilitate strong connections between visitors and LM's mission using excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to convert complex technical and/or scientific information into engaging content in an understandable format tailored to specific audiences
  • Ability to interact with and communicate complex technical information with diverse technical and nontechnical stakeholder groups
  • Organized with ability to prioritize and manage client expectations across multiple, competing projects/priorities with aggressive due dates and quick turn-around times
  • Problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills

  • National Association for Interpretation certifications are desired but not required.
  • Experience with a wide diversity of audiences of all ages in broadly diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, and participation motivations.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Department of Energy
  • Familiarity working as a contractor for the U.S. government
  • Familiarity with radioactive and chemical waste, environmental contamination, hazardous material and the associated long-term surveillance and maintenance, records management, work force restructuring and benefits continuity, property management, land use planning, and community assistance
  • Bachelor's degree in Interpretation, Education, Biology, Natural Resources, Chemistry, Public Affairs, Journalism, or related field.
  • With a minimum of five years of professional interpretive experience, formal education/instructor, or similar and a minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Sedentary Work Category The employee exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate.
  • The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions.
  • The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
