  • RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES•Evaluate all release of information (ROI) requests for completion and appropriateness as related to applicable federal and state privacy laws; return requests that are non-compliant.
  • Assist clinical staff in the preparation and completion of patient forms, letters, evaluations, etc.
  • that require Provider signature.
  • Prepare medical information and obtain billing statements in response to release of information request forms for contracted vendor to process.
  • Answer department phone calls; timely response and follow-up to voice messages.
  • Maintain medical record databases in accordance with department policies and procedures •Manage incoming faxes, either electronic or hardcopy, and direct to appropriate staff.
  • Scan and index medical documentation in the electronic medical record according to established chart order.
  • Provide excellent customer service at the patient "Correspondence Window" (Pt. Walk-Ins).
  • Back-up Medical Record Department work at multi-site locations as needed for coverage.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS•Ability to prioritize and complete tasks accurately and within strict time constraints.
  • Understand patient confidentiality regulations and release of information protocols.
  • Demonstrate professional communication (written & verbal) with patients and staff.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical records, forms, and authorizations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE•High School diploma or GED; RHIT/Eligible or Medical Office Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an HIM/medical record department or healthcare office setting with Release of Information (Correspondence) preferred; OR a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience working in an electronic medical record (EMR) system preferred.
