  • Genomatica is seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Capital Projects to manage our growing capital investment plans for bio-manufacturing facilities.
  • The successful candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, diverse and inclusive team environment, having excellent business acumen as well as communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • The candidate should have a proven track record of having successfully led large capital projects from a business perspective with a thorough knowledge of the capital project planning processes and adept at working in a cross functional team environment.
  • The individual selected will drive the accomplishment of project objectives through a detailed investment plan, risk identification and mitigation, resource alignment, evaluation of priorities, clear communication and establishment of robust progress reporting and escalation protocols.
  • The role requires close partnering with business leadership and senior executives to establish project objectives critical to the success of executing large capital projects.
  • He/she will work closely with the project manager to establish clarity in project roles, identify and manage resource requirements, define project deliverables, measure outcomes and insure effective project execution.
  • This is a full-time position reporting to the COO.
  • Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Develop and drive the capital investment project management process for Genomatica
  • Define the project investment strategy with the business and determine key decision points.
  • Demonstrate how the project will meet both the strategic objectives and the ROI of the project.
  • Identify and partner with the main stakeholders (business leaders, COO, CEO) for each project.
  • Highlight and communicate target project benefits and risks providing a thorough understanding of the project to key stakeholders.
  • Identify corrective actions to address issues and risks properly.
  • Serve as the primary voice and justification source for the project as it faces challenges.
  • Manage project governance processes determining when to escalate issues to higher levels
  • Drive key project delivery activities to ensure successful attainment of project objectives.
  • Manages each stage of a project to ensure that commitments are met in a timely manner.
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities, determines necessary resources, and monitors project performance through appropriate systems and procedures.
  • Qualifications & Experience
  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required in order satisfactorily perform in this role.
  • BS in chemical engineering/chemistry, biochemistry or relevant technical degree
  • Critical Experience and Expertise
  • 10-15 years of experience successfully leading large-scale capital projects in the chemical or biochemical industry at a leading company.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of capital investment project management from a business perspective that includes project organization, scoping and execution and how projects are successfully managed through stages to execution.
  • Practical understanding of chemical/biochemical plant operations and processes as it relates to plant investment projects.
  • Ability to successfully lead, influence and manage across multiple functions to get alignment with key stakeholders on prioritization, key actions, and path forward
  • Possesses a high execution orientation with decision making and prioritization skills with a keen understanding of when to escalate issues.
  • Ability to lead and further develop the company's Capital Project Management Process.
  • A proven clear and strong communicator employing open and honest communications.
  • Has a track record of earning the respect and “buy-in” of team members and other stakeholders and is able to execute tough decisions.
