  • Job Summary The IUPUI Office of Campus Facility Services (CFS) is seeking a Fire Alarm Tech. Fundamental Responsibilities: Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppressions systems; inspects tests, and repairs fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment.
  • Identifies hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Inspects, repairs, or replaces smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads; repairs and tests dry/wet systems; tests fire alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and equipment.
  • Performs tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems.
  • Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes.
  • Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications Must meet one of the following qualifications: High school diploma or GED and a certificate in an electrical DOL apprenticed trade and five years of verifiable experience OR Associate's degree in electronics and two years of verifiable experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University.

  • Ability to operate drills, conduit benders, drill presses, cable pullers, meters (volt, OHM, AMP, Meg), hand drills, hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to use diagnostic program and other applicable diagnostic software and equipment.
  • Ability to perform true test smoke detector sensitivity procedure.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties.
  • Drive University vehicles as needed.
  • Work any shift as needed.
  • 24-hour a day emergency response as needed.
  • Assist with snow removal activities as necessary.
  • Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.
  • Preferred Qualifications Ability to acquire and maintain asbestos worker or supervisor certification or other OSHA required certification.
