  • Job The Director of Engineering is a member of the Smashing Boxes leadership team who oversees, manages and represents the engineering team members of Smashing Boxes.
  • This role helps to improve, maintain and enforce engineering processes and code quality standards.
  • The Director of Engineering works hand and hand with various disciplines to ensure that the best interests of the engineering team members are being represented in leadership meetings and with our clients.
  • The Director of Engineering is responsible for ensuring that all engineers have a clear understanding of what is expected of them as well as professional development plans in place and actively being implemented.
  • Regular one-on-ones and reviews should be held with each employee by their Director recording all progress towards team and individual career goals as well as any blockers preventing them from achieving their highest potential.
  • Your typical responsibilities might include: Ensuring that Engineers understand how their role contributes to the company’s direction and growth.
  • Ensuring that all engineering team members feel they have clear direction and a solid understanding of what’s expected of them as a member of the department and of project teams, and they consistently meet those expectations.
  • Ensuring that work from all developers consistently meet or exceed our standard levels of quality.
  • Helping team members maintain a positive team morale, entrepreneurial spirit, and feel connected and heard.
  • Working with Sales and Project Management team (and other Directors): Maintaining relationshipsMeeting with clientsPerforming estimatesEnsuring that projects meet clients’ and users’ business needs and expectations of quality.
  • Evaluating advancements in the engineering industry to improve workflows, client satisfaction, and overall advancement of the company's offerings.
  • Interviewing Engineering candidates and assessing their technical and soft skills.
  • Performing regular one-on-ones, performance reviews and assisting with professional development plans for all direct reports.
  • Recognizing the balance between the needs of the company and the needs of the team.
  • Keeping the team well informed of company decisions.
  • Celebrating individual and team successes within the engineering group and the broader company.
