  • DescriptionEmory Law is currently seeking a Director of Academic Advising and Bar Success to manage with day-to-day operations of academic advising while creating and managing initiatives for academic and bar success.
  • In your first year, you can expect collaborate with the Associate Dean to develop and implement metrics, goals, and targets to evaluate and modify our academic advising, academic success initiatives, and bar success initiatives.
  • In addition, you can expect to analyze data regarding these initiatives and to create a handbook for bar passage.

  • Oversees and manages student academic advising programs for Emory Law School, including supervision of academic advisors.
  • Integrates the advising models of different degree programs to provide personalized support to all law students throughout their academic career at Emory Law.
  • Designs, implements, and improves initiatives and strategies for both bar success and student success.
  • Manages associated staff and works with students directly.
  • Identifies trends of importance to student outcomes through the analysis of data on initiatives.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and implement solutions and monitor outcomes.
  • Provides guidance to a team of Academic Advisors to support students with academic matters through course selection (specifically bar-tested courses and courses intended to prepare students for the bar exam), study skills, writing assistance, and other resources.
  • Assists incoming students with the academic transition to Emory Law School.
  • Manages the organization and implementation of academic support and bar exam readiness and success initiatives.
  • Oversees the Dean's Teaching Fellows (academic peer-to-peer counselors).
  • Creates, updates, and leads non-credit-bearing courses and workshops directed at student success Supports and guides others involved in this effort.

  • Assists with the management of the operating budget for the Office of Academic Engagement & Student Success and other related budgets.
  • Collaborates with faculty and other departments to design, implement, and communicate initiatives for improving student bar passage.
  • Provides students with resources to assist with bar readiness and passage.
  • Creates, updates, and leads non-credit-bearing courses and workshops directed at students for bar readiness.
  • Analyzes law school admission statistics, law school performance (courses taken and grades), and correlation of bar outcomes with the Institutional Research department of Emory Law.
  • Tracks student bar registration and outcomes in collaboration with Career Services, Registrar's Office, Dean's Office, and Institutional Research.
  • Remains aware of the requirements and the criteria of the Georgia bar exam and other state bar exams most frequently taken by Emory Law graduates to further support student bar readiness.
  • Maintains files and databases.
  • Assists with administration of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) and data analysis for continuous assessment and improvement, including associated research projects.
  • Coordinates and liaises with practice societies regarding academic advising activities.
  • Assists with the administration of exams for students with academic accommodations.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • JD and five years of experience with legal education program administration and/or advising.
  • Passage of a bar examination in the United States.
  • Experience using educational technology.
  • Advanced coursework in education, pedagogy, data analysis, or related field.
  • Experience with educational statistics and data analysis.
  • Experience with bar data.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to departmental duties using data to provide solution-oriented options to senior leadership of an organization.
