  • Primary Purpose Under general supervision, responsible for providing leadership, independent judgement, management decisions and direction in the assigned program areas: Competitive Sports Program (Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs), Pacific Recreation Facilities, Fitness Programs (Tiger X Classes and Tiger Training), Baun Fitness Center Operations and Tiger Escapes Program.
  • Makes independent decisions and provides direct supervision and direction to others in the development and management of the assigned areas of Pacific Recreation: Competitive Sports Program, Fitness Programs, Member Services, Tiger Escapes Program and Baun Fitness Center Operations.
  • Makes management decisions and responsible for direct supervision, hiring, training, coaching and evaluation of student employees, temp casual employees and volunteers for the assigned program areas.
  • Provides direct supervision and makes decisions in the direction of the day-to-day operations of assigned program areas including but not limited, program operations, program planning, leadership training, fiscal management of program areas and tracking all documents and records associated with the program.
  • In coordination with Campus Life Leadership ensures the development, coordination, organization and implementation of a student staff development program that includes; workshops, trainings, seminars, new hire orientations, professional skills trainings, student committee oversight and employee recognition programs.
  • Identifies policy and procedure changes assigned program areas, suggests and implements suggested changes to the program with supervisor approval.
  • Through regular visitations, monitors, evaluates and makes recommendations for enhancement of all assigned departmental programs and staff during normal operating hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Assists with managing multiple budgets, recommending decisions, interpreting and ensuring policies and procedures are followed regarding revenues, expenses and reimbursements.
  • Works with the Business Manager for Student Involvement and Equity to ensure all University policies are followed and ensure timely processing of all fiscal documents.
  • Develops action plans and marketing strategies to engage students, faculty and staff in assigned department areas of responsibility, attract new members and retain existing program participants.
  • Acts as advisory specialist for the risk management associated with all programs and events.
  • Consults as needed with the Associate Director and Executive Director and recommends appropriate policy changes to provide a safe environment for all.
  • Coordinates all conduct and reinstatement meetings for the assigned program areas, including exercising independent judgement determining outcome of all meetings determining participant eligibility and sanctions.
  • Creates and manages a comprehensive calendar of all for program areas and facilities and communicates regularly with Campus Life and Student Life Staff to provide timely updates on calendar updates.
  • Provides direction to the student interview team that conducts all first interviews for recreation program and facility positions.
  • Responsible for the Emergency Action Plan associated with all Pacific Recreation programs and facilities.
  • Coordinates and instructs CPR /First Aid/ AED classes to Pacific Recreation staff members and the University community.
  • Prepares participation reports at the conclusion of each activity for use in a year-end report.
  • Represents Pacific Recreation while working with all Student Life and Campus partners of Pacific Recreation to create a dynamic and fully collaborative Recreation program on campus including making independent decisions and recommendations on behalf of Pacific Recreation.
  • Oversees the ongoing evaluation of all related programs, including completing participant evaluations and/or assessments, focus groups, informal discussion and written program surveys.
  • Recommends and implements future modifications based on evaluation feedback.
  • Participates in Division of Student Life events as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Campus Life.
  • This position serves as Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them.
  • Bachelors Degree in student personnel, higher education, sports administration, recreation, exercise science or related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressive experience in Collegiate Recreation including but not limited to, competitive sports, facilities, fitness programing, membership services and/or adventure programming.
  • Two (2) years of proven ability to lead and supervise staff, supervision or leadership of collegiate recreation programs, services and/or facilities.
  • One (1) year of demonstrated progressive responsible facility management experience within campus recreation or equivalent experience in another recreational setting.
  • Standard CPR /First Aid Instructor Certification (to be obtained within three (3) months of employment).
  • Masters Degree in student personnel, higher education, sports administration, recreation, exercise science or related field.
  • A nationally recognized fitness instructor certification or personal training certification ( ACE , AFAA , ACSM , NASM , NSCA ).
  • Experience with Intramural Sports programs including league scheduling, FusionIM software and training and developing sports officials.
  • Strong knowledge of sports official training and program development programs.
  • Experience working with Sport Club Officers and Program Council/Executive Board.
  • Demonstrated experience in student recreation centers, student activities, student life or student development.
  • Involvement in professional societies and organizations.
  • Knowledge of personnel management and budgeting.
  • Ability to direct management goals, to facilitate change and create innovative programs.
  • Interpersonal skills that facilitate collaborative and cooperative environments.
  • Consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
