  • Hale Ho'ola Hamakua is licensed by the State Department of Health to operate a fifty (50) bed health facility consisting of forty-eight (48) Skilled Nursing Facility SNF/Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) beds and two (2) acute beds.
  • The day-to-day operation of the hospital is under the direction of the Hospital Administrator.
  • The primary purpose of this position is to be involved with menu preparation, diet formulation, dietetic counseling, nutritional assessments, and supervision of patient tray service.
  • The Dietitian III must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed by adult (19-64 years) to geriatric (65 years plus) patient groups.
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary team care conferences.
  • Complies with OBRA rules and regulations regarding resident assessment and screening information.
  • Supervises dietary personnel seeing that tray service functions smoothly, that proper sanitary standards are met, and that food is served accurately and in an attractive manner.
  • In the absence of the Institutional Food Service Manager II, this positions may plan work schedules and coverage for sick employees, prepare accident reports and equipment requests, participate in job interviews, and may assume full responsibility for the section.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a course of study approved by the American Dietetic Association, including the successful completion of a dietetic internship approved by the association.
  • Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible professional dietetic or nutrition work experience.
  • Applicants must also be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association or have the documented equivalent in education, training, and experience with evidence of relevant continuing education.
  • Desired Skills: Knowledge of dietetic principles and practices; principles of human nutrition; food preparation, purchasing, storage and supply; meal planning; kitchen management, including health and safety requirements; basic educational principles and teaching methods; methods and techniques of instructing and motivating patients of varying backgrounds; and the quality, grades, and costs of foods.
  • MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment physical examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen.
  • The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
  • COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
  • New employees are required to provide confirmation of their full vaccination status by presenting their CDC vaccination card or VAMS Certificate prior to their start date.
