  • The Office of Student Learning and Educational Resources, Assistant Director of Learning Support Programs and Academic Enrichment.
  • The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with faculty and administration to develop and promote evidence-based strategies to support and enhance student learning.
  • This person will support current, and develop new academic interventions designed to improve student performance.
  • They will provide high-level academic support and academic skills enrichment to students in all Morehouse School of Medicine degree programs.
  • In addition, they will provide academic counseling and deliver workshops related to the development of effective learning skills, study strategies, time management, and test preparation.
  • This person will monitor all academic student metrics and identify students at risk for academic difficulty.
  • They will keep key administrative faculty and staff up to date on the progress of each student.
  • They will also provide training to faculty on how to better support academically at-risk students.
  • This person will develop and participate in scholarship focused on evaluation of the effectiveness of existing and new academic support interventions.
  • Utilizes educational learning theories to enhance current, and develop new academic interventions designed to improve the classroom/learning experience, broaden students engagement in learning activities, and improve student learning outcomes
  • Facilitates quality engagement opportunities for students through ongoing workshops, tutoring, and other academic enrichment activities.
  • Develops a working knowledge of all academic programs course content and structure to create learning support curriculum materials; instructs faculty on content and delivery to provide optimal academic support
  • Develops and delivers student workshops to improve time management, organizational skills, stress management, test taking anxiety
  • Develops individualized student learning plans for more effective learning, studying, test-taking, and remediation strategies
  • Identifies barriers that impact academic performance and student learning outcomes and develops strategies to overcome those barriers
  • Reviews individual students performance and works with students on interpretation of assessments, making necessary adjustments to individual learning plans
  • Strategically prioritizes resources for maximum program impact
  • Collaborates with the Office of Disability Services to develop and implement approved student accommodations
  • Develops and implements training programs for faculty that provide learning strategies, study skills, test preparation, and test-taking strategies
  • Reviews, measures, and evaluates students development, growth, and progression in achieving program goals that align with the educational learning outcomes
  • Assists students in preparing for licensure examinations using best practices
  • Participates in appropriate institutional and external committees and activities to align OSLER student support services with academic programs and other institutional and external resources
  • Develops student learning outcomes and works with the Office of Educational Outcomes and Assessment to determine appropriate intervention targets and evaluation metrics
  • Serves as the organizing point for programs to improve student learning at MSM ; collaborates with academic units to advance MSMs teaching mission and assist faculty in identifying opportunities for external funding to establishes the OSLER as a financially self-supporting unit
  • Develops and collaborates with OSLER and academic departments on the writing and publication of scientific papers related to the activities of the office
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years in academic support in higher education or other relevant work experience in graduate health science education/counseling.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration, team building, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to track students, manage appointments, relate to faculty, staff, and students, and respond to their needs.
  • Able to use multiple techniques to assist students in developing study, learning, and testing skills.
  • PhD or EdD in Education, Educational Psychology, Learning Theory, or related field
