  • Summary This position is located in the General Accounting Office (TGA), which is headed by the Comptroller of the National Gallery of Art. TGA maintains accounting records for Federal appropriations and Private funds.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of all expenditures, reimbursements, foreign invoices (processing and payments), and any other pertinent financial transactions having to do with accounts payable.
  • Ensures that transactions entered the accounting system are properly supported by approved documents; reviews, evaluates and verifies the range of accounting transactions to determine the adequacy of the accounting system in meeting regulatory and program requirements; works with professional accountants and information system specialists in reviewing new or modified accounting systems.
  • Incumbent verifies that all necessary transaction codes, payment groups, vendor sites and other pertinent information required in the Gallery s financial system are entered correctly; compiles data to prove the accuracy of accounts and prepares written documentation, e.g., spreadsheets, reports, schedules, and analyses of transactions.

  • Broad knowledge and ability to apply accounting technical methods and procedures sufficient to work with complex accounting systems and to resolve difficult or sensitive problems with diverse financial transactions.
  • Mastery knowledge of governmental accounting practices, rules, regulations, procedures and reporting sufficient to support the efforts of TGA account managers in their mission to maintain accurate accounting books and provide accurate financial records to Gallery managers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of computer-generated reports and the proper preparation and control of computer input sufficient to compile and analyze data necessary to prove the accuracy of accounts and to develop written products supporting analyses.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices for non-profit institutions including those prescribed in the AICPA Statement of Position 78-10, Accounting Principles and Reporting Practices for Certain Nonprofit Organizations, December 31, 1978.
  • Time-in-Grade: Current federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration under merit promotion procedures.
  • CTAP/ICTAP: To be considered "well qualified", you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section.
